Leaving AtlasOS as a maintainer

Hi 👋

I have decided to step back from maintaining Atlas, or AtlasOS. This means the Playbook, documentation, etc.

I’m not leaving because of anything negative; there’s no drama. Working on Atlas has helped me advance my skills by introducing me to programming, scripting, etc. Before Atlas, I knew nothing about documentation, CI workflows, YAML, Git, PowerShell or managing Windows. Atlas helped me learn all these things, which has been and will continue to be very valuable.

Additionally, it’s amazing how far Atlas has come. Surpassing 13k stars on GitHub, over 1.8 million total downloads, and having an LTT video are just some of the major milestones Atlas has achieved.

However, after three years of contributions to Atlas, I lost motivation over time for Windows tweaking. Atlas has sometimes felt repetitive, and I want to try new things. For example, I want to learn lower-level programming languages, like Rust, or go into other areas, such as web development. Most importantly, I want to focus on my personal life more. Stepping back from Atlas will also alleviate the pressure of maintaining a large project.

I want to thank the Atlas team and the community that has helped maintain it. The team managing the Discord server, people making GitHub PRs & issues, testers, and the people who volunteer to help others all help make Atlas what it is today. Additionally, the AME team has been a big help and has always been there to accommodate their software to the needs of Atlas.

Thank you. 😊

What happens to Atlas?

Anyone is free to take over as a primary maintainer. If you’re new, you can work your way up by making pull requests.

I’ve left Atlas in an organised state so anyone can easily pick up where I left off. See the links below if you’re curious:
